Well, we know the players are made of sterner stuff and good on them.In the face of overwhelming adversity the Sharks have ground out a hard fought 12-10 win over a determined Titans side at Shark Park tonight. The Titans were on a hiding to nothing and they almost pulled out the win and would have been happy to play villain and leave the Shire with the valuable two points. T’was not to be.
There was a bumper crowd on hand to cheer on their side and the boys delivered, with Todd Carney, Paul Gallen and Michael Gordon all having great games. They were well supported by Wade Graham and Chris Heighington. The 40/20 by Carney was one of the best I have seen and to me the highlight of the night. It sent the parochial home crowd into raptures even though it didn’t eventuate in points.
The team received a standing ovation from their fans and you could see the empathy in the congratulations from the Titans players after the game.
Question is, will this galvanise the Sharks or will they come up short next week as the emotion and adrenalin surrounding tonight’s game won’t be there next week but the Sharks players need to concentrate on the job at hand and worry about the things they can control, and that’s how they perform on the field.
Well done Sharks. It was the silver lining the players and fans were looking for.
