Roosters face early season litmus test

The winless Roosters and the defending premiers kick off round three of the NRL Telstra Premiership and already it’s a high stakes game for the Roosters!

Still without three of their marquee players, the Roosters face the premiers and are winless after two rounds and the prospect of going 0-3 to start the season would make Trent Robinson, John Lee and Nick Politis pull at their collars as the sweat beads roll down their neck.

Sure teams can turn it around, but a 0-3 start leaves you a fair distance behind a group of undefeated teams that may well remain at six after this weekend.

The Roosters halves are yet to fire and they face probably the best halves pairing in the NRL tonight when they go head to head with Jonathan Thurston and Michael Morgan and let’s not forget the Cowboys are coming off a loss to the Eels and will be keen to atone in front of their home crowd.

The forecast is for wet weather and that may be the only thing stopping the Cowboys from running up a big score against the Chooks. Or maybe it won’t.

Running my eye over the Roosters team, I simply do not see where the necessary points will come from to defeat the Cowboys.

You would think Trent Robinson is safer than Andrew McFadden but the mercury will be rising under his seat if the Roosters slump to a third consecutive loss.

Mitchell Pearce’s moral support won’t be enough to save the Roosters tonight…
