The overwhelming thing that struck me last night watching the Raiders v the Dragons (and there were a number of things that struck me!) was that the Raiders are not going to miss Josh Dugan as much as many people might think. The performance of Reece Robinson at fullback was first class. He has a knack of not only taking the right decision in situations but also make players around him look good. He was good last year, he’ll be good again this year.
Other things to strike me during the game were:
1. Canberra much better with a recognised hooker (Buttriss).
2. The Dragons effort cannot be faulted (in the majority) but they need to find another way to score points other than the same way that every other club tries to score points (the Melbourne way!).
3. Steve Price, rightly or wrongly, is under enormous pressure now.
4. How good were the chases from Matt Prior to pick up a flying Jarrod Croker on two occasions. Once short of the line (but RR strolled over next play) and once over the line. There was no reward for effort from Prior but it certainly wasn’t missed by many Dragons faithful.
