It is expected that Josh Dugan’s career with the Canberra Raiders will come to an abrupt end this afternoon either by his own will or by that of the club.
We have heard that Dugan failed to front for training today and has informed the club he no longer has the desire to play for the Raiders.
It is believed Dugan has accrued enough serious breaches of his contract and the club’s code of conduct that had he not quit, his contract would have been terminated anyway.
The last thing the Raiders want is a repeat of the Todd Carney saga of 2008. The club does not need the negative press that surrounds players like Dugan.
Dugan’s contract money can now be put towards re-signing more valuable players such as Sam Williams, Jarrod Croker and Joel Thompson, who are all in high demand from other NRL clubs.
As a Raiders fan, I view this as a blessing in disguise. Yes, Dugan is a talent but not at this price.
