Canberra: You are a disgrace!

Two weeks after their embarrassing capitulation to Manly, the Raiders have followed it up with another pathetic display against the Warriors at Eden Park. The game is not over and I am writing this article as the Warriors are currently leading 42-6 after 53 minutes of play. The Raiders efforts have been laughable with so many unforced errors and missed tackles, it really begs the question as to what is happening with Ricky Stuart and his team of chronic underachievers.

You would think after such a last start flogging, a sense of pride would be at the forefront of the players minds but a cursory glance at the scoreboard doesn’t seem to phase this mob of bludgers. Only a select few such as Jarrod Croker and Paul Vaughan can hold their heads high.

The “leadership”shown by senior players like Campese, White and Shillington is non-existant. There is no urgency. They should hang their collective heads in shame and so should Ricky Stuart. His reluctance to change an under performing side and stick with players like Bill Tupou, who are clearly not NRL standard makes me think that pride definitely comes before a fall when it comes to Stuarts coaching methods and selection policy.

The Raiders have the worst for and against and have conceded the most tries but the useless compressed defensive line employed by Stuart smacks of arrogance as does the halves combination, which clearly is not working. Neither Campese or Wighton run the ball at the line and neither ever put the defence in two minds.

Where is the accountability? Do the players ever feel their position is under threat if they consistently deliver poor performances? It certainly doesn’t look that way.

As I type this the Raiders have conceded another try, eclipsing 100 points conceded in consecutive matches. Nice work Raiders. Nice work Stuart. Will anything change next week against the Panthers? Highly unlikely. The Raiders freefall into the abyss of humiliation will continue on unabated.

Canberra are the laughing stock of the NRL and that’s the kindest thing I can say about this team.
